What We Do

Innovia Research Centre conducts applied, community-embedded research to design and support evidence-based solutions for complex development challenges. We work alongside marginalized communities to generate insights that inform practical interventions across livelihoods, health, education, natural resource management, clean energy, and WASH,driving sustainable, locally relevant change.

At Innovia we support scalable interventions that strengthen household assets, improve food and nutrition security, diversify livelihoods, and increase access to sustainable agriculture, income-generating activities, and financial services.

  1. Strengthen household asset portfolios and improve food and nutrition security
  2. Promote diversified, resilient, and climate-smart livelihoods
  3. Support on-farm and off-farm income-generating activities
  4. Enhance access to inclusive financial services for poor and marginalized households

Innovia promotesaccessible, high-quality healthcare by strengthening rural health service delivery and supporting locally driven solutions that improve health-seeking behavior, particularly for women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities.

  1. Collaborate with healthcare providers to improve access, affordability, and quality of services
  2. Promote uptake of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) among marginalized populations
  3. Design community-driven innovations that improve health-seeking behaviour
  4. Prioritize women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities

Guided by applied research, we support interventions that improve enrolment, retention, and completion, working with schools, families, government, and partners to expand access to quality and affordable learning.

  1. Increase enrolment, retention, and school completion across basic, secondary, and post-secondary levels

  2. Work with schools, teachers, parents, government institutions, and other stakeholders

  3. Improve the quality and affordability of education in public schools and TVET institutions

  4. Strengthen learning outcomes and employability

We apply research to promote sustainable ecosystem management, restore degraded landscapes, improve soil health, and support community-led conservation of endangered plant and animal species.

Promote sustainable ecosystem management and restoration of degraded landscapes

Improve soil health and enhance biodiversity

Conserve endangered plants, medicinal species, and ecologically threatened flora and fauna

Strengthen community stewardship of natural resources

Through community-based interventions, we support households to adopt clean and renewable energy solutions for cooking, lighting, and agricultural use, reducing environmental impact while improving health and productivity.

  1. Promote household adoption of clean cooking and lighting solutions

  2. Support the use of renewable energy for productive applications in agriculture

  3. Reduce energy poverty and environmental degradation

  4. Improve health outcomes by replacing traditional biomass energy

Our work strengthens communities and schools by improving sanitation, promoting water conservation, reinforcing hygiene practices, and reducing water-related diseases through sustainable WASH interventions

  1. Improve community access to safe water and sanitation solutions

  2. Promote water conservation practices that support circular and climate-smart agriculture

  3. Implement handwashing and menstrual hygiene programs in schools

  4. Reduce water- and sanitation-related diseases
