Empowering Decisions, Shaping the Future

Innovative Research, Transformative Solutions

Who We Are

Innovia Research Centre is a not-for-profit research organization committed to advancing inclusive and sustainable development through applied research and local innovation.

We generate timely, high quality evidence to inform decision-making in complex programming environments, particularly where development challenges have no simple or immediate solutions. By working directly within communities, our research is grounded in lived realities and designed to address deeply rooted, interconnected problems.

Where We Work

We work in Kajiado, Homa Bay, Makueni, and Kitui counties, regions with high poverty levels and significant social, economic, and environmental vulnerabilities.

Many households in these areas live below the national poverty line, struggle to access adequate nutrition and healthcare, and face poor education outcomes. Climate change, land degradation, and declining agricultural productivity continue to erode livelihoods, increasing the risk of intergenerational poverty.

Our work is focused on breaking this cycle through evidence-based, community-driven solutions.

Our Thematic Areas

Innovia Research Centre works in parts of Kajiado, Homa Bay, Makueni and Kitui counties in Kenya. Each of these counties has large numbers of people living below the national poverty line. Many households in these regions cannot afford a decent a meal twice a day. In poor households, the number of children average between 6 and 8 per household. Many households have no or very limited access to healthcare, and poor nutrition is a recurrent threat to the wellbeing of household members, particularly children and lactating mothers.

Our Approach

We work where long-term investment is required and impact takes time.

Innovia Research Centre operates in environments where many organizations struggle to gain a foothold due to high costs, weak infrastructure, and complex social challenges. Our strength lies in our community-embedded model, which prioritizes local partnerships, trust, and long-term engagement.

By working with local staff and volunteers, and leveraging community goodwill, we reduce operational costs while increasing effectiveness. We embrace complexity and uncertainty as essential components of meaningful development and use research evidence to guide locally relevant innovations in resource-constrained settings.
